My Personal Review on Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor, White

Excellent baby monitor My wife and I love this monitor. We have replaced a summer children’s day and night baby video monitor with 5 “screen – White Philips Avent. The sound and picture are great, and there is no interference with the summer we had. Both day and video feeds are very clear night, and the design of the baby and parent units is modern and clean. There are some nice features such as night lights in the baby unit, and the ability to have the baby unit starts lullabies play by pressing a button on the parent unit. The parent unit can be adjusted to activate the screen turns off automatically to save battery power, unless the baby begins to make sounds. The camera is attached to the bracket camera, but held by a magnet, so it can be easily adjusted in any direction, and can be used without the AC adapter with AAA batteries. Philips manual tells you not to use rechargeable batteries as the baby unit does not have a charging function, but I do not see why you could not use AAA low self-discharge, as Eneloops. This baby monitor is completely covered by Philips 2-year warranty, which I found pleasant surprise, because a couple of Philips DVD players that I have only warranteed for 90 days and hoped that the security may not exceed one year. I noticed two minor issues that can not even be a problem for others. 1. With my setup, the positioning of the camera was a little difficult. We like to see everything from above the crib, so that the camera needs to be mounted on the platform above and to the left of the crib. The way the camera Philips are designed and passive, had to put a wedge in the back of the camera stand so the camera where I need to point. I could not just turn the camera down far enough, because then the goal would be covered by the support (see photos). I had this problem with the summer chamber design. 2. Night vision infrared light in the red glow of the baby unit. Are of low intensity, but still visible and distracting. The summer baby monitor also had night vision, but the night vision LEDs does not emit any visible light spectrum. Reading the comments on other baby monitors, I realized low scores because of interference. Monitor performance will depend on how “polluted” the frequency band in which it operates on its premises. For example, we have absolutely no problem with interference with Philips Avent Baby Monitor this even though my phone (b / g) router is in the same room as the parent unit. However, we had some interference problems with the baby monitor summer, although in newborns and their parents were at the same points that Philips is now. At the same time, summer baby monitor worked without any interference when we take the parent unit to the kitchen. The point is that you will not know unless you try. If you are looking for a baby monitor, I recommend you consider Philips Avent Baby Monitor.

The general consensus among users is that it is easy to use and performs very well. The clear picture and sound are the major selling points on this unit. Audio Quality:

Crisp, clear soundis what you’ll get from the Lorex LW2002W digital video baby monitor. The transmission range is up to 450 feet. It has a highly sensitive microphone allowing you to hear every little sound your baby makes if you want too. If the noise in the room is below a certain level the sound automatically mutes itself, then when the sound in the room (eg.baby crying) reaches that threshold, the sound comes back on. It’s designed this way to prevent white noise, however it seems to be an unpopular feature of the Lorex video baby monitor- some parents would prefer the sound to always be turned on with the mute function optional.

Other Features:

The Lorex LW 2002W Digital video baby monitor is very easy to set up, it only takes a few minutes. There is an ‘Out of Range’ message which notifies you when you have the camera and monitor(receiver) too far apart to communicate with a strong signal.

Television compatible:

The camera’s image can be displayed as a split screen on your TV using picture-in-picture. This allows you to watch TV and view your baby at the same time. The system also works with a recording device such as a VCR or DVR. 

There are only a few unfavourable comments made in regards to the Lorex LW2002W Digital Wireless Surveillance System when used as a video baby monitor, the main one is not being able to have the sound turned on constantly, secondly you can get audio feedback if you take the handheld monitor too close to the camera, however, this is standard for any piece of audio equipment if the receiver gets too close to the source. Thirdly the battery life is a bit poor.

Overall this is quite simply an outstanding, affordable, digital baby monitordisguised as a surveillance system, if privacy and no interference is a high priority feature then the Lorex LW2002W Digital Surveillance System is the video baby monitor you need. Parents rate this monitor as 4* out of 5*.

Baby monitors are mom and dad’s best friend when it comes to helping watch their baby. These products also help ensure the safety of the child.

In the past, baby monitors were basic devices that were simply a transmitter and receiver system.  The units were wired and transmitted audio from the baby’s room to the parent’s bedroom.  Fortunately, as technology has progressed, so have baby monitors.  Today, digital baby monitors are the most popular type sold as they provide parents with increased functionality and greater freedom to move around the house.

As with any technology, digital baby monitors have both advantages and disadvantages.  Here are a few:

Advantages of Digital Baby Monitors

Digital baby monitors, as the name implies, use modern digital technology.  This gives them an edge over older analog models in terms of clarity of sound and video, as well as increased functionality.  Analog simply can’t compete with digital.  Digital receivers are also more sensitive to sound.  By this, I mean the units can pick up more subtle noises than the analog models.

One problem with analog monitors is the fact that neighbors and other people close by can inadvertently pick up the monitor signal and listen to it. With the digital models, you maintain privacy by using secure channels.  The biggest problem with analog baby monitors is range.  The mobility of the parents is greatly reduced since they always have to be mindful of the range.  With digital monitors, the range has improved dramatically, allowing parents to more easily work and move around the home without worrying.

Disadvantages of Digital Baby Monitors

Like everything else, digital baby monitors do have disadvantages. One of the more controversial topics concerning digital monitors is the possible health risk. Since these digital devices make use of signals like electromagnetic waves, some parents believe they  may cause health problems to babies.  There isn’t any conclusive evidence to support this claim, but it is recommended that parents keep the monitors 8-10 feet away from where the baby is sleeping.

One other consideration is price  Digital baby monitors, particularly the ones that offer video, can be more expensive.  This is expected since the technology is so much more advanced when compared to analog.   For many parents, this may be a problem.  However, the quality you receive from digital makes the investment well worth it.

Digital baby monitors offer the clearest reception, increased functionality, and are much better than the older analog versions.  It is highly recommended that you purchase the model that best suits your family’s needs.
